What do you think of spending time making movies, plays, music etc? Doesn't seem any fundamentally different from spending time making a video game to me.
One thing is that the "gameplay" part of it has no actual artistic value, and dilutes and pads out what good there is in video games. There are some exceptions, sometimes they can simulate real life and give broader practical lessons like how to spend money properly or making sure you're always fully prepared for things. Only really applies to the difficult ones that punish you for messing up and make you think.

I thought of the same thing. I think he's referring to the popular corporate games which are little more than Skinner boxes.
