It goes well with my other research, you're not really influencing people by posting. They have stuff they want to hear and if they don't hear it they ignore it or unfollow you. It's "residues"/genetics and economics all the way down -- endlessly post about how blacks and libs are stupid or perish under the cold hand of the free market. No one wants a counter intuitive political science, they want to hear that they are smart and that's it.
I think this take is a little extreme and pessimistic. People do change their minds somehow. And reading material that creates a new perspective or overturns some preexisting beliefs can be exhilarating. But the frequency of posting thing is just undeniably true. When I discover a writer who is interesting, I'll check back frequently to see if they have posted something new and I'll get that hit of dopamine when I see that they have. Of course, it's true that it's uncomfortable to realize that one has been wrong about something, but it happens. I mean there is resistance to it but if the case is made strongly enough then beliefs and opinions do change.
Iām guessing this is rather discouraging for you š
